Need clarification on the two "Render Child Nodes" Behaviors

Hello,
I was trying to add the Render Child Nodes behavior, but I wasn’t able to add it. At first, I thought I was doing something wrong or that there was an issue with my setup.

After spending some time investigating, I realized that the toolbox contains two behaviors with the same name: Render Child Nodes. It wasn’t clear which one should be used in which situation.

Could someone explain the difference between the two Render Child Nodes behaviors and when each one should be used?

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out!

Although both behaviors are named Render Child Nodes, they are intended for different purposes and are identified by different symbols, which indicate the type of behavior they represent.

Screenshot 2026-07-15 100821 This Yellow Circle icon represents an Action (or Property) behavior. This behavior is used to directly control whether the child nodes of a target node are rendered. It is typically used when you want to enable or disable the rendering of child nodes.

  • In general, use this behavior when you want to immediately show or hide child nodes in response to an event.
  • For example, if a button is clicked and you want to display or hide a group of child nodes right away, this is the appropriate behavior to use.

Screenshot 2026-07-15 100912This Yellow Star icon represents a Receiver (or Value Processing) behavior. Instead of directly controlling the rendering, this behavior receives and processes an incoming value or event, then updates the rendering state of the child nodes accordingly. It is typically used when the rendering should change dynamically based on application logic or runtime conditions.

  • In general, use this behavior when the rendering should be controlled by a value or application logic rather than being triggered directly by a user action.
  • For example, if the visibility of child nodes should change automatically based on a value or an event received from another behavior, this is the appropriate behavior to use.

The symbol helps you identify where the behavior can be used. When adding a Render Child Nodes behavior, make sure that its symbol matches the type of collection you are adding it to.

For example:

If you try to add a Render Child Nodes behavior with a different symbol, for example, adding the Receiver version to an Actions collection or the Action version to a Receivers collection, the behavior cannot be added, as only matching behavior types are supported by each collection.
